Challenge
The city of Andover, Kansas, needed to modernize its visual identity while staying true to its community values. This required creating a visually appealing and versatile logo that reflected Andover’s spirit and resonated with residents and community stakeholders.

Solution
We conducted extensive research to understand Andover’s community values and goals, starting with meetings to align on expectations. Using these insights, we developed a design brief and created multiple logo concepts that embodied Andover’s brand personality of sincerity. Stakeholders were engaged in two in-person sessions to refine the designs. The final approved logo incorporated key preferences and evolutionary elements. Comprehensive graphic standards were developed to ensure proper logo use and brand consistency.

Evolution Builds on Community Admiration of Current Brand

By aligning the design process with stakeholder and community input, we ensured the new logo resonated with the people it represented. The strategy focused on evolving the brand to maintain familiarity while introducing modern elements that captured the city’s friendly and clean identity. The chosen idea, an evolution of the beloved city logo, builds on the equity and community admiration for the current brand. It elevates the mark in several ways, straightening up the “A” shape to appear stable, strong, and symmetrical. We simplified and reduced the number of rays, making it easier to reproduce and brightened the color palette to a contemporary vibe. A bold wordmark was created centering the ”O” under the Kansas sun. This collaborative, research-driven approach resulted in a logo that reflects Andover’s values and strengthens its brand presence.
