We all know that the democratic process isn’t always fast or pretty, but none of us would choose the expediency of authoritarian rule.
The process for developing public art is equally time consuming and sometimes messy, but neither would we favor the efficiency of a single art buyer.
As more and more communities work to reap the cultural and economic benefits of public art, we thought you might like to peak behind the canvas a bit to get an idea of how you get something of the people without looking like it was created by the people.

At Greteman Group, we’re always itching to bust out the glue guns and get dressed up. Race for the Cure is the perfect excuse.
In previous years, we bedazzled bright-pink bras and wore them over black shirts (easily winning the “Team That Stands Out Most in the Crowd” award). And our team name? The G-Cups.
But, locating nearly 20 pink bras in various shapes and sizes can be a daunting task, so this year we downsized. Each team member was given a pile of assorted pink ribbons, a glue gun and a black T-shirt. We could decorate our shirts in any way we deemed fit, but only using the pink ribbons. It was much simpler than past years, but still proved to be fun and entertaining.
The race was on Saturday, and the weather was perfect for a leisurely 5K walk. My favorite part of the event was our group photo with “T-Dog,” the Wichita Thunder’s mascot. But overall, it was just another lovely day of sisterhood and coming together with our Greteman Group family.
Be sure to check out some photos from the day.
