Greteman Group is being retained as the advertising agency of record for the Kansas State Fair, the fair’s board of directors voted this week.

Greteman has maintained the state fair contract since 2004.

The $175,000 contract includes campaign development, marketing, public relations, media planning and statewide promotion coordination throughout the year. Greteman also provides hands-on support during the 10-day fair in Hutchinson.

“We appreciate that we’ve been given the chance to direct our expertise and enthusiasm toward this overarching goal: attracting the next generation of dedicated fairgoers,” said Sonia Greteman, company president and creative director, in a written statement. “We’re already thinking of ways to deliver even greater value in light of the state’s ongoing fiscal challenges.”

The state cut the fair’s advertising budget this year by $50,000.

To offset the reduction, the Greteman Group says it worked with the fair to employ low-cost, high-return digital media options, including a blog, Twitter, Facebook and MySpace.

Attendance for the 2009 fair reached 350,856, a 10 percent increase over a year ago.
