Esther Headley received what she said is one of the greatest honors a person can receive: recognition from peers.
Headley, president of the Research Partnership and marketing instructor at Wichita State University’s Barton School of Business, was named 2009 Marketer of the Year at a Wichita American Marketing Association awards luncheon Thursday at Newman University.
“I’m just very humbled,” Headley said after the event. “When I got into this business 30 years ago that stage is the last place I thought I’d be.”
Headley founded the Research Partnership, a national marketing research consulting firm, with WSU marketing professor Bob Ross in 1982.
She was one of six nominees for the overall award. The nominees, who received Marketer of the Year awards for their respective industries, were: Bill Gardner, president of Gardner Design; Denny Marlin, marketing director for Gossen Livingston Associates; Charles Mayer, Hawker Beechcraft’s global vice president for marketing, communications and public affairs; Lynn Deckinger, director of communications at Youthville; and Beth Tully, owner of Cocoa Dolce Artisan Chocolates.
Aimee Brock, an intern at Greteman Group, was named Student Marketer of the Year.
Kelly Snedden, outgoing WAMA president, said more than 160 people attended the event, which included a presentation by Jeben Berg, creative director of cross-platform solutions for YouTube and Google.
